Fixed fashion is my interpretation of the lifestyle and fashion of London fixed gear bikers. It responds to their desire to express their personality through embellishment and decoration.
Through my exploration into this sub-culture, I became fascinated by the way fixed gear cyclists represent their lifestyles and personalities. Function and fashion come together to form identity �" coloured bicycle components and details are carefully picked to match their clothing and character. My challenge was to build a fashion concept the same way they build their bikes.
The way they design reminds me of children picking and mixing sweets in a brightly coloured candy store. I wanted to capture this sense of playfulness of colour, volume and technology in a fashionable decoration for the body. I pushed this concept further by distilling fixed fashion into five creative drivers: function, decoration, lightweight, identity and fashion �" which I mixed, matched, juxtaposed and reinterpreted.
By adopting their candy-store attitude, I’ve created new ornamentation for the young at heart. They’re wearable, fun, art pieces with a functional twist appealing to the contemporary people with a desire to express themselves. Read Less
