Fields:  Industrial Design

Our project in Tech-Prep was to create our own mechanical toy, using the same principals as a wood kit. Designing a model that would use two motors along with two gear boxes was a harder task than I originally anticipated, and it took some time to make all the pieces work with one another. All together the crane body was probably the hardest piece to design, because we wanted style and functionality; however, I think we lacked a bit on the style side. The crane was an interesting model to design in AutoCAD Inventor, and in my opinion turned out quit well.

The Cranes legs were another hard piece to design; we wanted them to look tough, yet elegant. In the end we decided on an ogee curve as our final design and it seems to have worked out well. The feet (as I like to call them) where added for support, and have a + shape.

The Crane body is the where all the pieces on the crane come together. It will house to motors with two gear boxes, and will have all the wiring of our crane. The crane body's floor was extended at the front of the crane, to allow for legs support. The ogee curve design was also used on the front of the crane's body. Two beams run across the top for support.
The crane back is were we will be mounting the two battery packs that will be powering our crane. Each battery pack will support two AA Batteries.
The crane arm was designed by my partner, Russ.  This was the first piece on our crane that was designed and cut. Its unique design is what draws attention to our crane.
