Poster for Children's Book Festival 2009
The festival is a month-long, nationwide celebration of young people's literature, organised every year by Children's Books Ireland. This year, CBI wanted to involve children directly in the creation of the Festival poster, and sought the assistance of Cork City Library to help them do so. A group of talented local children was assembled, who spent three consecutive Saturday mornings in energetic brainstorming workshops led by project co-ordinator Alan B. (that's me) and overseen by CBI director Mags Walsh.
After careful deliberation, and with several thousand (approx.) other excellent ideas cast aside, the final concept for the poster was decided upon: a dinosaur so engrossed in his book he fails to notice the impending catastrophe about to rattle the ice cubes in his lemonade!
The poster will form the core of the promotional campaign for the Festival, appearing in bookshops, libraries and schools throughout Ireland this October, while the artwork itself will also feature on related Festival materials. It will be part of the official CBF launch at Cork City Library on 1st October.
Further information on the Children's Book Festival can be found on the CBI website.
