Champion
Growing up, times were tough.
I’m not saying we were poor
but at times we barely had enough.
It taught me to appreciate more.
And I’m grateful for the love
of my family and endless support.
I want to show my nieces--
You can be a Miracle story
And yes we can be a Victory
From “Whose he?”
To “That’s you?”
To me back in school
saying “You can do it too.”
Work from rock bottom on day one,
for the chance to rock out in the sun.
I don’t need street cred,
I’m trying to obtain all my college creds,
which is harder done than said
when I’m being taxed by the feds.
When I can’t keep up with the loans
I’m kicked off the Board of Ed.
And I can’t own my own home sweet home
because the banks say “bad cred.”
I don’t want to be a superstar,
I just believe I can go far.
I don’t do it for the glory and fame,
but I want my name to be recognized.
I know that the road to success
will include failing sometimes.
But when I stand above the crowd,
makes my daddy proud.
It’s worth the pain to see joy in his eyes.
I know this race isn’t yet done,
but God told me it’s already won.
“More than a conqueror.”
I am a champion.
