Fields:  Photography

CAMPO

Photography in the Fields (2003)

I drove past these fields for years while heading to the beach for surfing. Through all seasons--winter, spring, summer, and fall. I would kind of daydream, visualizing how I could frame each image. Studying the fields every time I passed by. One day, I finally decided to drive to the fields just to take photographs.

Landscapes, people and objects... whisper in invisible silence. Waiting for someone to take a precious shot that stops present time.

The day I stopped my car near by, I walked an hour back and forth on a high-speed  traffic lane in between two major fields. At one point I was afraid of getting hit by car, and then I thought this was a really stupid idea. But somehow, I was driven by what I saw, and I knew I was there because the fields had called me.

I haven't surfed in a while. But I really like that area. I did consider doing a color series of the fields. However, at the time it seemed like the somber feel was more intriguing to me and how I could express it best. I'll definitely wait for the right time of year to take photos of the harvest or lambs, or something...but in color. Thanks for the suggestion.

ah ah... it's so good to see my place portrayed by someone else :)

Me too passed by this same landscapes over and over for one reason... to get to the surf.

I like what you did here, even though my memory of this place is a lot more colourfull.
