Calaca Toys

I'm working on my final school project with 2 friends, the basic idea is to create a designer toys company  from a mexican perspective ( kidrobot = american, toy2r = chinese, medicom = japanese).


About the concept

Designer Toys + Mexico + pop + minimalism

 "How the hell are we going to mix that?" is what we thought from the beginning; mexican graphism is well known for being so saturated and we didn't want to look like that because, well, a lot of people is already doing that :)

We chose to work with a concept based on the Day of the Dead, why? first of all, we think it is globally recognized, for those who don't know, that is a tradition where something happy and colorful  meets something not so happy... we took that concept and adapted it.

About the figure

Our first toy is called "Nagual", don't you know what a Nagual is? well, a nagual (pronounced " na' wal) is a human being who has the power to magically turn him- or herself into an animal form.

We think that this concept fits perfectly to the DIY (Do It Yourself) toys with a mexican perspective.
