Designed as a 6-panel CD jacket, this is what you see as you open the package:

Project:
CD package design for Dan Auerbach's album 'Keep It Hid'
Type:
Academic
Role:
Concept, design, production
Creative Strategy:
Our assignment was to create a CD package design for a musician of our choice. Such open-ended projects are often a little overwhelming, but after sketching ideas for a bunch of artists I eventually settled on Dan Auerbach, the lead singer for one of my favourite bands, the Black Keys. Auerbach is becoming famous for his wild beard, which is truly a thing of beauty. Since it is such a defining characteristic, I wanted to incorporate it into the design, and play off the title of the album, 'Keep It Hid'. The front cover contains only an illustration of the beard and the title of the record. Opening the front cover reveals the inside fold, which contains Auerbach's jacket with his name on the tag. Opening the package fully you come to the 3-panel spread featuring the beard and jacket together. I wanted the person picking up the CD in a store to have to go through and explore each panel of the design to get all the necessary information on the record. Each panel should lead them to the next.
Inspiration:
My music library, The Black Keys, Sasquatch! Music Festival, beards, CD and vinyl packaging
