Byron Harmon Commercial Portraiture
In September 2007, I was contacted by Byron Harmon, Executive Producer of CBS News. Mr. Harmon found my personal website via the search string “New York Photographer”, a successful instance of personal search engine optimization. After reviewing my portfolio, Mr. Harmon contracted me to photograph the cover of an upcoming autobiographical Simon & Schuster book release. He was given permission to hold a photography session at CBS Studios.
During initial creative meetings with Mr. Harmon, I was given a tour of a “hot set” at CBS Studios. Mr. Harmon issued me full creative control. After photographing the location and existing on-set lighting, I recommended three lighting set-ups utilizing native and external lighting.
On the shoot date, a potential problem arose. The native studio lighting necessary for the desired creative would only remain “hot” for thirty minutes after the day’s final broadcast. To keep the lighting on longer would require unionized overages and would not be approved by CBS. Because of this shortened timeframe, I would need to rework our shooting schedule and strategically prepare my lighting set-ups during a live taping. Immediately after taping wrapped, Mr. Harmon and I began our shooting session across three locations with three wardrobe changes. Both Mr. Harmon and myself were highly satisfied by the final creative.
Final imagery will appear on the cover, jacket, and website of the Simon & Schuster book release, God Gave Me Some Bad Advice.
