Bridget's Beret
A PREVIEW OF A BOOK-IN PROGRESS
I wrote this book as a challenge to myself to do two things I'd not done before.
First, I wanted to write a book for girls, because most of my books are skewed towards boys and I'd like to reach a wider audience. Second, I wanted to write a story with the classic story-telling elements: a protagonist, setting, conflict, complication, etc.
The idea was inspired by my niece, who is a bundle of talent, energy and attitude.
These sketches represent a book at about the third stage of development. The story is written, sketches are complete and a rough layout is done. Now I just have to make the final art and make sure all the details are right.
I've included the first half of the book. You'll have to wait until it's published to find out what happens! The book is being published by Christy Ottaviano Books/Henry Holt and will be released in April, 2010.
