Series of 20 images from Bokor Hill Station, in southern Cambodia
[Several sample images included]
Bokor is a haunted and beautiful place, a cluster of colonial buildings near the clouds of southern Cambodia. Built in the early 20th century, it was a fashionable retreat from sweltering summers for the French - and, later, Cambodian - elite.
Only mist-shrouded ruins remain of these extravagant structures, including a once famous casino and holiday homes for the royal family.
These stately houses are now abandoned on the windy peaks of a national park. They bear the marks of Khmer Rouge and Vietnamese conflicts from a generation ago, and the contemporary graffiti of a few hardy visitors from Cambodia and beyond.
All images were hand-printed in editions variee (each version slightly different due to variable application), in an edition of 20. They are all cyanotype photos (19th century blueprint process) on watercolor paper.
Prints were exhibited in the Four Seasons, Bangkok, 2006
