A Red Letter Day
A
Red Letter Day:
The Wartime Diaries Of Geoffrey Frank King 1939-1941*
A book based on the shorthand diaries of Geoffrey Frank King, a member of the British military during WWII.
Problem
Research has revealed that there are many consumers who are very interested in the military history of their parents or grandparents, though general history books on the subject rarely provide in-depth details on the lives of soldiers of a particular rank or regiment.
Currently, there is a growing niche market for the publishing of books focusing solely on particular regiments, military operations as well as on soldier memoirs.
Approach
In order to capitalize on this growing interest, a book was developed based on the transcribed Shorthand diaries of Geoffrey Frank King, a member of the British Military during WWII.
Intended
to be an intimate and very visual reading experience, the book
expands on key WWII events and happenings to GFK using typography,
image and colour to express emotions or clarify facts. Throughout the
book, images of the original diaries are used as chapter markers and
GFK's writings are often juxtaposed with a typographic “second
voice” to add an overall historical context of events while being
visually interesting for the reader.
