Folklore Reincarnation for Tokion

Swedish design invites you to blend past and future by constructing a future folklore hat for Tokion Magazine Reincarnation Issue 2009. Mixing old wall hangings, tablecloths and shiny materials, reassembling them together like a puzzle. By combining classic Scandinavian design symbols with East London club-culture vibe, Lundgren updates folklore fashion with her signature 'more is more' style. Mix and match, cut and paste, and don't be afraid to be gaudy. The readers own creations can be seen on tokion.com/project.

Flamenco Future

Bright colours in general I think are something that usually do not occur in eco- design, and overall people have an idea of eco-design to be muddy, dull and colourless. I wanted to prove the opposite, with a playful, strong confident collection in optimistic recycling theme, where all prints are printed on recycled scarfs. Strong colours that radiate confidents and optimist and suits the fashion-forward consumers that is brave in choice of composition and colours, in a new traditional way.

Future Folklore Textile Samples

The History behind my project is grounded in when my mother wanted to give me a folklore dress for my graduation, and having a folklore dress is a tradition for the women in our family. My aunts have different dresses depending of where they live in the country. The colours in the dress come from the environment you are surrounded of and the accessories have symbols that tell stories about your village and in the folklore tradition your dress has to be hand stitch by your mother. The handcraft, story and tradition about the folklore dress interested me and inspired me to create a folklore dress for the new generation club community people in East London.

Still using the inspiration and meaning in the pattern and colour as before but using them in a new shapes and colours that represent today and the future for the people in the East London community. Combining the old folklore style in pattern and motive with the ‘Shoreditch creative techno/newrave look, which include shiny materials and creative accessories and clothes solutions. Working with contrast but also similarities in form of reusing old wallhanings and combining them with new plastic materials .

The Folklore dress is designed and build up with different layers that you can add and take off, I have used that concept of designing different accessories that can be mixed together and layered after your own wishes. The Future folklore dress is inventive, playful and creative just like new generation of fashion puzzle.

Future Folklore for the Next Generation

The Story behind my project comes from when my mother wanted to give me a folklore dress for my graduation. Having a folklore dress is a female tradition in our family. My aunts have different dresses depending of where in Sweden they live. The colours in the dress come from the environment surrounding and the accessories have symbols that tell stories about your village.
In the folklore tradition your dress has to be hand-stitched by your mother, and it is build up by layers of garments and accessories, like a fashion puzzle. The hand craft, the story and the tradition about the folklore dress interested me and inspired me to create a folklore dress for the new generation clubbing community in East London which I have found using a certain style that reminds me of the folklore dress tradition.

Taking the inspiration and the meanings of the patterns and colours as in tradition but using them in new shapes and colours that represent today and the future of the people in the East London community. Combining the old folklore style in pattern and motive with the 'Shoreditch creative techno/newrave look, which include shiny plastic materials, strong vibrant colours, creative big accessories and clothes solutions. Working with contrast but also similarities in forms. Reusing old wallhangings and tablecloths and combining them with new plastic materials, reusing material but still keeping the traditional feeling.

The Folklore dress is designed and build up with different layers so that you can add or subtract the different pieces to your own personal taste. I have used that concept of designing different accessories that can be mixed together and layered after your own wishes. The Future folklore dress is inventive, playful and creative just like the new generation of a fashion puzzle.
