These things inform my design: I was born in Mexico to Americans who valued travel above possessions and encouraged me to learn about the world by visiting it. I take inspiration from houses built around courtyards in Mexico, covered paths in the rambling Buddhist monasteries in China, and open-air hotels in Hawaii to name a few. My time as a Zen Buddhist monk taught me to appreciate the importance of the senses in shaping an experience. Yoga has taught me how to make interiors better suited to the human body. Finally, the study of poetry opened my world to the unbounded creativity of the modern movement. Read Less
