<title>Photosonography: UPDATED</title>
<description>Diego Stocco, Photosonography

When we take pictures the sound keeps flowing around us.
The idea behind Photosonography is to capture a short sound "image" along with the picture.
Both are taken at the same location, without any additional audio/visual post processing.
Does the sound affect your perception of the picture?
Diego is also exploring another idea, called Imaginary Sound. The concept is to record short imaginative sounds of objects and places, recorded live without any additional post processing. In this case though there's no picture, so it's your imagination that has to fill the space.

<title>Experibass</title>
<description>Few weeks ago Diego Stocco visited a luthier looking for instruments parts, he had an idea in mind for an instrument he wanted to build. His curiosity was to hear the sound of violin, viola and cello strings amplified through the body of a double bass. He came up with a quadruple-neck experimental "something" that he thought to call Experibass.

To play it he used cello and double bass bows, a little device he built with fishing line and hose clamps, a paintbrush, a fork, spoons, a kick drum pedal and a drum stick.

Diego thanks luthier John Wu for providing him the parts, even though he warned him that he was probably going to create a "monster".</description>

<title>Music from a Tree</title>
<description>Diego Stocco created a composition called "Music from a Tree" by playing sounds out of a tree. In the garden of his house there's a tree with lots of randomly grown twigs. It looks odd and nice at the same time. One day he asked himself if he could create a piece of music with it.

To tune the tree Diego picked a fundamental note and tuned the twigs by trimming them with a pencil sharpener.
Diego used two Røde NT6 and a NTG-2 as microphones, combined with a customized stethoscope.

Diego recorded the tracks live on a Pro Tools LE system. He didn't use any synthesizer or sampler to create or modify the sounds. 
All the sounds come from playing the tree, by bowing the twigs, shaking the leaves, playing rhythms on the cortex and so on.

<description>Diego Stocco created a composition by sound designing the noise and tones of sand. The entire track is created only out of sand tones. No additional sounds or waveforms. Diego Stocco emphasized the inner notes of the sand grains and mapped them on a sampler 
as a series of instruments. All the grooves are played live with various techniques, including taping two piezo transducer to my fingers. Diego Stocco would like to dedicate this work to Mike Oldfield.

<title>Deep Green UIS Sound Design</title>
<description>Sound designer and composer Diego Stocco created the User interface Sounds for Deep Green, a beautiful and elegant Chess application for Apple iPhone and iPod touch created by Joachim Bondo of Cocoa Stuff.
Diego created a rich set of sounds by using an actual Chess board, an old watch, a vintage desk, bells, an instrument from 1899 called Harp-o-Chord and other small mechanical tools.
The game uses an intelligent system that randomizes the noises of the pieces moved on the board, allowing a sound experience similar to the real game.

For the soundtrack of "The Conduit" Composer Diego Stocco created a large amount of ambiences, tonal distortions, massive drums and percussions by using various unusual acoustic and electronic instruments. In some cases, also for the orchestral sounds Diego experimented with signal processing to alter their original color and character.

The movie was about a difficult choice that a couple had to made. I decided to post these tracks because I created them with the same piano that later I used for the Burning Piano session. Several people asked me why I burned that piano, and the reason it's very simple. It was impossible to keep it tuned and many hammers and keys were damaged. As an old piano its life was over and destined to die covered in dust, but sampled as the Burning Piano in a certain way it's still alive and it's now part of a software instrument that many people play and make music with it.</description>
