There are many legends about the origin of name „MACEDONIA“. One of them says that such name comes from the name of the frst king MACEDON. Scientist thinks that the name „MAKEDONIJA“ is created from the old Macedonian words: „MAKOS“ (huge high) und „DON“ (country, state) that results into „huge country“ „high country“, „ mountainous country“.
