"Švankmajer is best described as a Czech surrealist artist who works in several media but is best known for his bizarre and quirky stopmotion animations. These animations usually combine a mix of 3-D stopmotion with elements of puppets and live-action. It's no surprise that his work has been a major influence on the likes of The Brothers Quay, Tim Burton and Terry Gilliam - it's a delightful mix of playful humour with a warped sense of the dark."
