Christa Pierce

Author and Illustrator

Portland, OR, USA
I am an illustrator with a creative mind and a passion for storytelling. I received my BA in Illustration with a creative writing minor from Seattle Pacific University in 2013. I am represented by Steven Malk at Writer's House and am currently working on making my debut in children’s publishing, as well as preparing other illustration projects. "Did You Know That I Love You?", my first children’s book, is planned for publication in 2015. I have two years experience in illustration and design working with Seattle Pacific University, Bijou Collective, and T. Marks Design, and four years experience independent contracting. My work has been featured in such publications as Response Magazine. Particularly, I am interested in visual storytelling, reinforcing the relevancy of art, and empowering others to find expression/catharsis through image and narration.

Illustration/New Pictures

In the past decade the boundaries between the disciplines of Illustration and Studio Art have blurred greatly. Illustrators exhibit their work in galleries and museums and Studios Artists have their work employed in print for advertising, commentary, storytelling, and identity. Thus the curriculum of Illustration/New Pictures was created to overlap traditional autographic rendering techniques in drawing and painting with new technology-based skills toward works of art that emphasize narrative.

The students coming out of this program are headed toward advanced study in Illustration or Studio Art and/or the building of a studio practice with an entrepreneurial approach open to the possibilities of a variety of vocational trajectories.
