Denielle Medina

Designer - Illustrator - Animator

Brattleboro, VT, USA
I have been weaving my way through the world of art and design my entire life. Born with an innate traditional skill-set, I proactively sought out a BFA in graphic design and a graduate degree in 3D computer animation to make my talent as well-versed and technologically relevant as possible.

My work ranges from full corporate branding and promotional materials, to high-end illustrations for the music and animation industry, and even custom tattoo designs for clients all over the country. I thrive on chances to combine out-of-the-box creative thinking, classical training, and the digital world together to overcome challenges thrown my way.

My goal is to understand the visions of others in ways even they can't; helping people see the true potential in what they and their company can achieve, than realizing it for them as seamlessly as possible from start to finish.

After leaving Nomad Airstream, I reopened my studio full-force. With new skills in business and leadership, I have developed a more structured and productive work flow. My projects this year have focused on illustration, corporate identity and website design. Clients include Sassy Images, Villari Martial Arts Studio, Espos Diesel, local bands, and countless private commissions to name a few. I have also began a line of T-shirts on Design By Humans.

STRENGTHS INCLUDE:
+ Speed with working, while retaining high level of quality.

+ Managing multiple projects in completely different fields.

+ Would love for more changes to work 3D into designs and to continue building my logo portfolio.

Nomad Airstream

VP of Design - Creative Director

In charge of landing potential clients with concept drawings and project proposals. Saw projects from beginning to end by creating full structural and design technical drawings, researching and ordering materials for the interior design, close work with the general and project managers to complete tasks according to blueprints, overseeing work done by the whole team to the last detail. Worked directly with clients to ensure their needs were being met, and that every decision was properly approved before being executed.

STRENGTHS INCLUDE:
+ Selling concepts for large projects, versus a finished project, since we started from an empty Airstream shell and didn't have anything physical to show them right off.

+ Turning typical layouts (for living quarters) into bars, stores, and other commercial or high-end living spaces.

+ Working with extremely limited, confined, and constantly changing elements. The variations in size, shape, and the condition of each model of Airstream brought in posed new challenges to overcome project to project.

+ Multitasking since we had multiple projects at various stages happening simultaneously.

While completing my Bachelors, I opened my own studio to work for people all over the country. Clients resided in NYC, upstate New York, and California. During this time I re-branded a nursing home facility, created a corporate identity for a tutoring company, produced a hip hop album, and began working on Airstream designs.

STRENGTHS INCLUDE:
+ Multitasking across several artistic platforms with overlapping deadlines.

+ Working with directors and owners of companies directly. As well as experience working with the print studios we used who specialize in paper, vinyl, cloth, or 3D mediums.

+ Strong work ethic, problem solving skills, and focus needed when managing ones own schedule.

STRENGTHS INCLUDE:
+ Managing staff and explaining directions to masses of children at one time.

+ Planning and execution of schedules and classes for a camp full of people.

Education

Sheridan College

Graduate Degree, 3D Computer Animation

An intense eight month program where I learned 3D Autodesk programs like Maya and Mudbox, studied animation production pipelines, and was introduced to the inner workings of the film industry. This resulted in the ability to build a 3D computer animated film from concept and story boarding through to post production and final rendering.

I excelled most with the concept and creation of models and environments, including 3D modeling, texturing, and lighting. Currently teaching myself Zbrush.

::: Greatly improved my 2D abilities in illustration and design from the new perspectives I learned to work with and the extremely rigorous schedule we were on. This resulted in more dynamic compositions, a higher level of quality in my pieces, and faster work flow overall.

Volunteering

Designer / Art Teacher - FountainView (Retirement Community)
January 2012 – September 2012 (9 months)

After moving to a new location just outside of NYC, I used volunteering to meet people and learn more about the local community.

:: I helped with advertisements, posters, and special events held in their seven facilities throughout the first half of 2012. This led to a job with FountainView when the director saw the work I had been doing.

:: Created an art class held a few times a week for the elderly members. There I taught design basics and theory on color and composition. The goal was to create an art gallery by the end of the year showcasing their work. Sadly I moved away before my goal was fulfilled.

Volunteering

Designer - Rotary International
September 2008 – Present (5 years 6 months)

My mother has been a member of Rotary for a long time, and although I have yet to join myself, I help the cause whenever I can.

The most prominent fundraiser I help with every year is the RoDucky Derby. Over the past five years I have done paintings, posters, tickets, and any other promotional materials needed to get people buying ducks throughout the summer months.
