Born and raised in Porto Alegre, RS Brazil.
Graduated from Pratt Institute, New York, in 1976 with a BA in Fine Arts and Communications Design.

Represented by Diamond Art Studios (New York) until 1983 when he returned to Brazil and began working for all the major advertising agencies in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. In 1990 lived and worked in Porto Alegre, returning to the US upon invitation from Diamond Art, now Diamond Promotion Group. In 1995 Diamond is bought out and ceases activities, with this McAllister begins representation by Paul Santa-Donato Studios, New York.

In 1997 Al McAllister returned to Rio de Janeiro, again working for agencies in Brasil, now exclusively via internet, and maintains representation at Santa-Donato Studios.

He currently resides in Niterói, RJ and is represented also by AboveBoards LLC for USA west coast and midwest clientele.
