Vans Commissioned Mural for Hackney Bumps Skatepark, East London
On Vans Checkerboard day 2022, I was commissioned, along with several other artists from the skateboarding scene, to create a wall of collective artworks at Hackney Bumps skatepark in East London
I had previously painted for this skatepark already (see below) with a piece that signposted the park’s name and also included reference to the famous logo with two ‘bumps’ hugging, alongside some of my signature non-binary characters skating and doing tricks
For the new piece I kept the same style for the writing as I had received a lot of positive feedback from the community around this - but switched up the bumps to included a checkerboard design for Vans’ promotion and for the event itself
I included my characters once again, but made them bigger and more simplified than before, taking up more space and shredding on the checkerboard style bumps. Of course, I also gave the characters some classic Vans shoes to skate in 🔥
