North American P-51D Mustang

June 6th, 1944– The North American P-51D Mustang long-range escort fighter played a central role in the success of D-Day and PROJECT OVERLORD, the Allied seaborne assault on Nazi-occupied Europe.  While American, British, and Canadian ground troops battled for control of Normandy’s beaches, Mustang pilots provided much needed air support and protected bomber crews from Germany’s dreaded Luftwaffe.  Due to the scale of the invasion, Allied commanders ordered that all participating aircraft be repainted with black and white “invasion stripes” to help avoid mistaken identification and loss of life through friendly fire. The Mustang has become one of the most iconic and highly regarded piston aircraft of World War II and the Korean War.

The North American P-51D Mustang is consistent in scale with Lego’s other historical
plane models... making it over THREE feet in length with a TWO-AND-A-HALF foot wingspan!
