"What are.."

Textured sculptures with an organic impact. Constructing with a multitude natural materials. My intention of the composition’s message is to awaken the global population who provide the negative impacts their actions have on the planet. I wanted my work to capture the audience’s attention with a subtle pleasing aesthetic; luring the viewer to the deliverence of the more vixatious message. The layers excavating where the ocean’s hits their deepest points. The wood’s colour representation showing how the waste parches the ocean’s; similar to that of a desert. My main reasoning for the placement of the perspex board onto my laser cut sculpture was not one of only practicality and protection purposes. The visual aesthetic created by the added material adds one of fluidity and translucence. The materialistic metaphor is one of blunt representation; due to our consumable habits as a race and lack of recyclable care our planet’s eco-system is drowning beneath plastic and such other resources to the point of no return. The translucency of the sculpture representing the possibility the human race could achieve with our ocean’s.
